Residents of Ilukwe Street in Asata, Enugu, the Coal City capital, were yesterday thrown into mourning following the brutal murder of Rev. Victor Nnaduagwu by unknown persons on Wednesday night.
Our correspondent who visited the street yesterday discovered that most of the residents have fled the place over fear of police arrest.
A source who spoke to DailyPost on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the battered body of the late cleric was discovered in “Asata Stream”, in the early morning of Thursday.
“Some persons who had gone to fetch water in the morning saw his lifeless body and raised the alarm which attracted many people to the scene.
“It was discovered that Pastor, as he was fondly called, had several wounds in his body, an indication that his assailants may have killed him with some hard objects. Blood was also gushing out of his nose and mouth”, the source revealed.
She described the late cleric as an easy going man, who ensured that they had security in the neighbourhood.
“He was our security man in this street; you can see the location of his house, so each time, he was always there with his dog and with that, he was always scaring bad people away from this area. We are indeed going to miss him”.
Further investigation by our correspondent showed that Rev. Nnaduagwu lived alone in his one-room apartment at No 1 Ilukpe Street.
A source hinted that his ageing father reported early in the day and locked up the room.
The Police spokesman in Enugu State, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, has also confirmed the incident.
In a statement he issued in Enugu, he said: “The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria police has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing of Rev. Victor Nnaduagwu.
“The dead body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary of the Eastern Medical Centre, Enugu for autopsy”.
