Cameron tasks Muslims on charity during Ramadan
British Prime
Minister, David Cameron, has tasked Muslims across the world on the
importance of charity and compassion during the period of Ramadan.
He urged them to remember the less privileged and those undergoing hardship in the society.
Cameron was quoted as saying this in a press statement by the British High Commission in Abuja on Thursday.
He said, “As the holy Islamic month of Ramadan begins, Muslims across
the world are reminded of the importance of charity and compassion.
“During this hugely important time of prayer and fasting, your
thoughts must be with those that have suffered the most this past year –
particularly the Syrian people.”
Cameron said the values and traditions at the heart of Islam were
not peculiar to the religion but shared by those other faiths in
Britain.
He said, “Charity and compassion are values and traditions at the heart of Islam but shared by those of all faiths in Britain.
“At this time of great change and uncertainty across the world,
Britain plays important roles on the international stage to help the
less fortunate through our aid budget and work with our allies and
friends.”
