Ondo drug robbers arrested in Onitsha
POLICE in Ondo State said on Thursday five out of the 20 armed
robbers who carted away drugs estimated at N34m at the Ondo State
Central Medical Stores Akure on May 25 had been arrested.
The suspects were arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State, according to
the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Aremu Adeniran.
He said the robbers disarmed the seven security officials on duty
before robbing the hospital store, carting the items into the lorry
they drove to the CMS premises.
He said, “The police mounted strict surveillance at some of the major markets across the country.
“Specific attention was paid to two special drugs that were specially
ordered for from overseas by the state government and the strategy
worked.
“The drugs were invariably sighted at the Onitsha Head Bridge (Anambra State) drug market, popularly called Ogbogwu market.
“This led to the arrest of five of the armed robbers and the stolen drugs.
“Large quantities of of the stolen drugs worth N2m have been recovered.”
Adeniran said, “It is pertinent to state that the same syndicate had
carried out some nefarious and dastard crimes at Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and
the Kogi State Central Medical Stores and escaped without being caught.”
He said efforts were on to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
