Ex-Ondo LP chairman, ACN gov aspirant join PDP
Former Chairman of the Labour Party in
Ondo State, Dr. Olaiya Oni, and an Action Congress of Nigeria leader in
the state, Mr. Saka Lawal, in Akure on Thursday defected to the Peoples
Democratic Party.
Apart from Lawal and Oni, three prominent ACN members also defected to the PDP.
According to the Chairman of the PDP in the
state, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi, the defectors have agreed to work for
success of the party during the October 20 governorship election.
He said, “Their presence here today
forcefully signifies their desire and absolute readiness to join hands
with the PDP to wrestle this state from the clutches of the Mimiko
administration.”
Alabi said The PDP chairman said one of the
defectors would be considered as the running mate to Chief Olusola Oke,
the party’s governorship candidate for the election.
He said, ” I am sure you know that these
men here represent the essential pillars and crucibles that the Action
Congress of Nigeria rest upon in this state, and even before then, the
essential fabrics of the Labour Party.”
He said an agreement had been reached
between the party and the new members on how the party’s strategy to win
the election would work out.
He said the position of governor had been zoned to the Southern Senatorial District
Oni said they decided to join forces with the PDP to stop Governor Olusegun Mimiko from returning to office.
On his part, Oke pledged that priority would be given to the power sector to revive the economy of the state.
